Ferdinand and Vidic Injured in United's Win At West Brom

Manchester United's centre backs Rio Ferdinand and Vidic were both taken off after sustaining injuries at their opening league match against Wes Bromwich Albion.

With 52 minutes gone on the watch, and the scoreline remaining 1-1, United's defender Vidic walked off the pitch with a groin injury being replaced by Johnny Evans . Soon to add to the injury crisis was United's defender Ferdinand who was clutching his hamstring. Sir Alex Ferguson had to bring his new signing Phil Jones to replace Ferdinand in the 75th minute of the match.

For the rest of the match United's defence consisted of all new and promising young lads, Johnny Evans, Fabio, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. United's defence seemed strong for the rest of the match but the champions will not be able to use their first choice defence partnership for some time. There was no problem in the defence while Ferdinand and Vidic watched Ashley Young score the winner from the sidelines.
